Two examples concentrate specifically on the students and how efforts to assist them with their development of educational skills are implemented.
The examples offer a wide range of participants: from people re-entering the educational system and pursuing opportunities to find access to higher education to adults wanting to learn a foreign language and international students who study abroad. All of them benefit from a comprehensive and well-developed system of student support.

Tricia Jenkins presents a three-day introduction for mother-tongue adult students who are re-entering education after a long break, which builds upon the "problem-based learning programme" (PBL). New entrants are helped to orientate themselves and assisted by more advanced students at the University, which enables them to develop their cultural competence, build self-confidence, make contacts and learn where they can look for support for problems.
