THE CODE OF PRACTICE

PRIMA Membership is based on the willingness and ability of its Members to meet the requirements specified in the Code of Practice. The Code of Practice shows the commitment of its Member institutions to guarantee and monitor the quality of services offered.

The Code of Practice is an integral part of the PRIMA Articles of Association and contains:

  • a Statement of Intent,
  • a Student Charter,
  • a Staff Charter,
  • a Members' Charter,
  • an Information Charter.

The basic principles underlying the PRIMA Code of Practice are:

  • respect for the legal constitution of PRIMA,
  • professional integrity,
  • truthful advertising and information to members of the public,
  • value for money,
  • fair dealing with clients, students and staff.



The PRIMA Staff Charter

  • The contracts of all PRIMA staff are governed by national labour laws.
  • All staff in member schools, whether full or part time, are issued with written contracts specifying the terms of employment and the main responsibilities of the post.
  • Members provide fair terms and conditions of employment in the context of the relevant national and local standards in the following areas:
    • salary,
    • length of contract,
    • working and teaching hours per year,
    • paid holiday entitlement,
    • sickness, maternity, family and compassionate leave,
    • unpaid leave of absence,
    • severance pay arrangements.
  • Members have clearly specified written procedures for dealing with staff grievances and disciplinary problems.
  • Members employ administrative and academic staff with appropriate qualifications according to national norms and showing willingness to continuously work on improving their standards of work.
  • Members provide all staff with adequate workspace and facilities to carry out their duties.
  • Members provide all staff with relevant opportunities for training and development within and outside working hours.
  • Members undertake to keep their staff informed about the school policies, aims and strategies, about the day-to-day activities of the school as well as about all the Charters and procedures developed by the school or the organisations and associations it belongs to.
  • Members guarantee to treat all staff equally, fairly and without any discrimination on grounds of social status, nationality, gender, race or religion.



The PRIMA Information Charter

  • Members' advertising materials are factual and give a clear and truthful account of courses and other activities.
  • Before enrolment, members provide students or their representatives with clear information on the nature of, and rationale behind, the course, with clear information on:
    • exact minimum course length and dates,
    • number of hours taught and of hours for other activities,
    • dates of closures and holidays,
    • placement and assessment procedures, reporting and certification,
    • size and make-up of groups, including age restrictions,
    • any use of real classes for teaching practice purposes.
  • Before enrolment, members undertake to provide students or their representatives with full and clear details concerning the contract between the school and the student, including exact course fees, and the rights of each party, according to the contract, in the event of withdrawal or exclusion.
  • All prices mentioned in advertising and other information specify clearly which services and goods are included in the price and which are available at additional cost, including the cost of fees for public examinations where courses aim to prepare students for these and any additional taxes that may be payable.
  • Diplomas and certificates of any kind signed or issued for any purpose by members contain accurate statement of fact. If such certification is based on examinations or tests, members undertake to ensure that these are valid and soundly administered.
  • In the case of students or pupils under the age of 18 on full-time or residential courses, clear information will be provided about supervision arrangements and the qualification of supervisory staff.
