In the first three sections (Assessing Spoken Interaction, Assessing
Reading, Assessing Writing), the main body of the material is that developed
for pupils to use in the lower secondary language classroom, either free-standing
or as part of a language portfolio. The material is consciously ELP (European
Language Portfolio)-compatible, and is available for both paper-and-pencil and
computer use. While there are some differences between the format and content
of the material for these three skills, certain common elements are present,
notably:
Some extra material is included for pupils or teachers, in the case of
speaking and reading.
A
section on Assessing Intercultural Competence is also included,
although this work has been at a mainly exploratory stage.
The section on the Findings from the Central Workshop in Graz,
shows suggestions for further adapting and supplementing the material developed
in the project.
Finally, the forms used in the surveys, together with a selection of data
collected, are presented. The Surveys formed a very important
part of the processes followed in the course of the project, as these were used
to inform us of what pupils actually do when they use their foreign languages.
This enabled us to tailor ‘can-dos’ to ‘actually-dos’.
