Intercultural Competence

The work on making can-dos for Intercultural competence, ICC, only reached a preliminary stage in this project. It was initiated in 2002 by inviting school pupils to say what they believe a person of their age, entering their country for the first time, should know. Categories adapted from then CEF were suggested as subheadings.

The invitation text can be viewed here. Over 50 replies were received from four countries (Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Iceland), and these were analysed for all elements mentioned. At the Central Workshop in Graz, December 2002, a system of exemplified categories was produced, using this data.

Further work, using this system, producing a preliminary blueprint for a self-assessment tool for Intercultural awareness.
